Thailand’s Seaplane Future - Krabi

June 17, 2026

From Vision to Reality: Thailand's Seaplane Future Takes Flight in Krabi

Thailand's seaplane vision continues to move forward, with significant progress recently achieved in Krabi through both in-principle approval, regulatory advancements and growing government support.

These developments mark important steps toward establishing seaplane operations in Thailand, creating new opportunities for tourism connectivity and regional economic growth across the Andaman region.

Siam Seaplane Receives Approval for Seaplane Landing Sites in Krabi

A major milestone was reached when the Krabi Provincial Marine and Coastal Resources Committee (DMCR) granted in-principle approval for temporary seaplane water landing areas at Tubkaak Beach, as well as two additional landing sites in Phi Phi Island. The proposal was presented by Siam Seaplane during the committee meeting chaired by Deputy Governor Suwit Suriyawong and attended by representatives from relevant government agencies to consider the proposed marine aircraft landing operations.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, local government agencies, tourism stakeholders, and environmental authorities to discuss the project's potential benefits and considerations. Discussions focused on ensuring future operations align with aviation safety requirements, environmental protection measures, and sustainable tourism development.

The committee's in-principle approval represents an important step toward making seaplane operations a reality in Krabi and reflects growing confidence in the role water-based aviation can play in enhancing connectivity across the Andaman region.

Strong Government Support for Seaplane Development

Building on this momentum, Siam Seaplane was honoured to welcome Deputy Minister of Transport Mr. Phattrapong Phattraprasit and representatives from the Ministry of Transport to Krabi to review the proposed water landing site and discuss the future of seaplane operations in Thailand.

During the visit, the Ministry announced the establishment of a Strategic Committee to drive seaplane development, bringing together key government agencies and industry stakeholders to support implementation, regulatory coordination, and long-term planning.

The Ministry also reaffirmed its support for Krabi as one of the pilot locations for Thailand's seaplane initiative, with trial operations between Krabi and Phuket being explored as part of a broader vision to improve connectivity throughout the Andaman region.

Looking Ahead

Together, these milestones represent meaningful progress toward introducing a new mode of transportation that can enhance accessibility, support high-value tourism, and strengthen Thailand's position as a leading aviation and travel destination.

While there is still work ahead, the progress achieved in Krabi demonstrates the strong collaboration between government agencies, local stakeholders, and the private sector in turning Thailand's seaplane vision into reality.

At Siam Seaplane, we remain committed to working alongside our partners to deliver safe, sustainable, and seamless seaplane connectivity for Thailand's future.
