Chiang Mai Airshow 2023

Upon making our approach to the short runway of Chiang Mai Air Sports, east of Chiang Mai citry, we were requested on the radio to make a low pass — something that “is always a fun thing to do for pilots”, says Michael, Deputy Manager Operations and one of our pilots flying the plane. 

As we landed and taxied to our parking area, we were greeted with a very warm welcome by a row of curious on-lookers, aviation enthusiasts, and aircraft owners. As we opened the aircraft doors, we received refreshing beverages and people rushed in to take photos and view our Cessna Grand Caravan C208B EX, as well as chatting with fellow pilots who were already there.

The Chiang Mai Airshow, from 6-10 December 2023, once again graced the skies with a nice display of aerial prowess, leaving attendees captivated by the thrill of flight. From the moment visitors set foot on the air show grounds, they were met with a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the dedicated staff, setting the tone for four days filled with excitement and camaraderie.

While the event may be smaller than other international air shows, it has been clearly growing over the years. It was nice to see familiar faces in General Aviation as well as meet new pilots and aircraft owners who flew in from Malaysia and Singapore. The diverse presence, from Thai and international visitors, coming from all over Thailand as well as internationally, added a rich tapestry to the event, fostering a sense of community among like-minded individuals passionate about all things aviation.

Day 2 of the airshow was highlighted by a conference organized by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT). The conference provided a platform for professionals and enthusiasts to engage in discussions about the latest developments and challenges facing the aviation industry and in particular General Aviation. Attendees gained valuable insights, contributing to the collective knowledge and fostering a deeper understanding of the ever-evolving aviation landscape. The importance of aviation tourism was further highlighted with the honorable attendance of the Minister of Tourism, H.E. Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol. 

The airshow's display lineup was a testament to this recognition of GA’s importance, featuring a diverse selection of aircraft that catered to a wide range of aviation interests. From our Cessna Grand Caravan, to the sleek Black Shape, a variety of small and experimental aircraft, agile gyrocopters, and a majestic hot air balloon, attendees were treated to a visual feast of general aviation marvels.

The Chiang Mai Airshow has firmly established itself now as a must-attend event for aviation enthusiasts in Thailand, offering not only breathtaking aerial displays but also a platform for knowledge exchange and community building. As the general aviation sector continues to evolve and expand, the Chiang Mai Airshow stands as a beacon of inspiration for those who find joy in the boundless possibilities of flight.

As the sun set on another successful Chiang Mai Airshow, the echoes of roaring engines and the graceful dance of aircraft lingered in the memories of attendees. Until next year, when the skies above Chiang Mai will once again become a canvas for the beauty of flight and the spirit of aviation excellence.
